General Information
This web area provides an overview of available email services and contains instructions for configuring some popular email programs for use with Rutgers-Camden mail servers.
Students, faculty and staff of other Rutgers campuses should consult Computing Services on Your Campus for support.
These instructions assume that a valid NetID account and password have been created and assigned, and that a working internet connection has already been established. For more information on NetID and account creation, please see the "Your @rutgers.edu Email Address" section, below, as well as the Creating an OIT Email Account and NetID page. For more information on connecting to the internet on/off campus, please see the home access web area or contact your ISP for more information.
Camden Computing Services highly recommends the use of IMAP, rather than POP. More information on the difference between the IMAP and POP email protocols is available here.
Users with a dedicated UCS/IT support staff should always consult with same before configuring email software at work or at home, especially since work settings may affect your home use of email (and vice-versa).
Existing POP email users that are considering switching to IMAP should DEFINITELY consult with departmental UCS/IT support staff before doing so!
Your @rutgers.edu Email Address
Starting January 1, 2011, all new faculty, staff, students, and guests (anyone becoming an active member of the Rutgers community) will be assigned an auto-generated NetID. Additionally, as a component of the Account Creation/Password Setting process, an @rutgers.edu alias will be offered to you.
In addition to a campus-based email address (netid@camden.rutgers.edu), you may also configure a firstname.lastname@rutgers.edu or similar email address alias. This alias and delivery service is maintained centrally by OIT and operates separately from the Rutgers-Camden email servers.
For information on how to obtain an alias that includes "camden" (i.e., firstname.lastname@camden.rutgers.edu), please contact Camden Computing Services.
Web Mail
The easiest way to read and send mail is directly via the web. See the main Rutgers Web Mail page for links to Web Mail systems available at any of the Rutgers campuses (including Camden). Web Mail can also be accessed through the myRutgers portal. The Camden Web Mail system can be accessed directly at http://webmail.camden.rutgers.edu
Web Mail is the best approach for users who do not receive a lot of email, or those who wish to avoid installing and setting-up a separate email program. It is also a useful tool for those who use different computers or travel often and need quick/easy access to email. Even users of other email programs will appreciate Web Mail's convenience when in a public lab or other location where other programs are not available (internet café, library, hotel or similar). Those who must, or wish to, use another email program (in addition to, or in place of Web Mail), can utilize the below instructions for their system/program. If you do not see your email program below, please contact help@camden.rutgers.edu for more information.

Faculty/Staff Exchange Services
A subset of schools/departments on the Camden campus have come together to support a Microsoft Exchange server for calendaring, email and other features. This server supports certain portable devices/phones, Microsoft Outlook on Windows, and Microsoft Entourage or Outlook 2011 for Macintosh, as well as providing Outlook Web Access.
For more information on availability of this service, you should consult with your departmental UCS/IT support person(s).
Faculty/Staff RUMail (Zimbra) Services
Rutgers offers departments the option of creating their own domain on the centrally-managed RUMail service, which provides Exchange-like functionality based on Zimbra.
For more information on availability of this service, you should consult with your departmental UCS/IT support person(s) and/or contact RUMail Support.
