Camden Educational Series

The Camden Educational Series provides seminars and workshops on various IT-related topics. The EdSeries instructors are staff members from Camden Computing Services and from other IT support groups in Camden.

Registration

Online registration is processed by Rutgers HR at https://uhr.rutgers.edu/profdev/script/login.asp. An active NetID is required in to register for an EdSeries seminar. Registrants will be notified in the event of a seminar change or cancellation.

Computer Access

All seminars that make use of computer lab software will require a computer account on the student (clam) or faculty/staff (crab) server. For information on creating an account and activating a NetID, visit http://oit.rutgers.edu/services/account/quick.html.

myRutgers Portal & ScarletApps Demonstration

myRutgers Portal is primarily targeted to students but brings together a variety of information and services that are also available to faculty and staff at Rutgers University. Using your NetID you can access the myRutgers portal (http://my.rutgers.edu) and from there you can read email, register for classes, view your grades, find and add channels, customize your tabs and gain access to a variety of other useful services. This session will also demonstrate the use of ScarletApps (including ScarletMail), the new Google Apps for education suite now available to all students.

Introduction to Microsoft Word 2010

This introductory hands-on workshop will demonstrate using the new ribbon interface in Word 2010 to perform basic tasks done in menus in previous versions of Word. Information will be presented about the new .docx naming convention and setting the line spacing from the default of 1.5 in Word 2010 to 1.0. Note: attendees should bring a sample document to work on.

Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint 2010

PowerPoint is often used at conferences or in the classroom to bring a visual component to a presentation. This workshop will introduce those who have not used PowerPoint 2010 to new elements such as the ribbon menu; themes, which have replaced the autocontent wizard design templates; and the new location of slide transitions under Animations. The attendee will be able to create a basic presentation.

Introduction to Microsoft Excel 2010

This preliminary workshop will cover the fundamentals of the Excel spreadsheet program. Attendees will learn about the toolbars and gain in-depth information about the pull-down menus. The class will look at data entry, data types and data formatting.

Intermediate/Advanced Microsoft Excel 2010

This workshop will extend the material from the introductory course. The class will continue with arithmetic and formulas as well as Excel functions.

Microsoft Outlook 2010

Date and Time: 1-3:30 p.m. Friday, April 13

This workshop will initially review the changes from Outlook 2007 to 2010. The class will focus on reading, organizing and sending email. Topics will also include managing spam, working with contacts, using the calendar and staying organized. Additional features such as notes, tasks and subscribing to blogs will be included.

Introduction to Microsoft Access 2010

Instruction and general help on how to use Access 2010 for simple database applications. This course is designed for those who have never used Access before or have a basic understanding of Access 2007 and would like to learn new features of 2010.

Scanmark

The Scanmark test scanner has the ability to scan multiple-choice tests and receive immediate results. In addition, a program called ParSCORE enables faculty to manage student records and data from their offices. This workshop will cover how to use QuickSCOREII and ParSCORE. Enrollment is limited to six people per session and will be scheduled by sending email to ude.sregtur.nedmacnull@seiresde.

Enhanced Classroom Demonstrations

The demonstration will cover the fundamentals of using the various types of enhanced classroom equipment. Enhanced classrooms are IT-enhanced standard classrooms that have video projectors, multimedia playback capability and in some specific rooms instructor PCs. Individual appointments may be made by calling the Help Desk at (856) 225-6274 or filling out the form on the HR registration site. Enhanced classroom demonstrations are available by individual appointment throughout the semester.
