Position:  Unix Assistant System Administrator

Description:
This part time position is for a student interested in working 15-20 hours a week during the school year (and possibly longer hours in the summer) dealing with various system administration duties potentially on macintosh clients, sun clients and sun servers (including both Sun Microsystem servers and Linux systems).  The position entails installing and upgrading software, hardware, some basic networking, writing some shell scripts and other basic system administration tasks.

Requirements:
The student we are looking for would be a computer science major, with knowledge of Unix, X windows and some knowledge of programming in C and shell scripts.  Some knowledge of Macs may also be helpful.  The student would be hard working, can work well alone, motivated, organized, and very thorough in their work.

Some knowledge of Macs/PCs may also be helpful. The position requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work  independently.


Position:  Web Page Editor/Project Consultant

Description:
This part time position is responsible for reviewing and updating Camden Computing Services web pages, as well as creating new documentation for supported software in web page and paper formats.

Requirements:
This position requires excellent written and oral communications skills, attention to detail, an ability to work in groups and independently, and a willingness to test new and unfamiliar software.  Knowledge of web page editing software such as Dreamweaver, php, and forms is a plus.  You may also be required to work with other Microsoft products such as Word or Excel, and work on projects such as creating/tabulating surveys. This position is open to all majors who have the required knowledge.

Position:  Project Assistant

Description:
This part time position is responsible for a variety of tasks including evaluating software on multiple platforms and producing reports, assisting at Edseries workshops, writing and editing straight forward scripts on our Unix systems, and creating/editing Camden Computing Services web pages and documentation.

Requirements:
This position requires excellent written and oral communications skills, attention to detail, an ability to work in groups and independently, and the ability to test unfamiliar software by independently following manuals and other available documentation.  Knowledge of Netscape Composer, HTML editing, Javascript, and Unix shell scripting required.  Knowledge of perl a plus. This position is open to Computer Science majors.

Position:  ResNet Consultant - Camden Campus Housing

Description:
This is a part time student position. This person is responsible for the successful activation of resident student systems in the dorm to be connected to the Rutgers network (RUNet) and to maintaining connectivity from on campus housing (Apartments and Towers).   Usually working as part of a team of at least 2 or 3 ResNet consultants, this person will be required to learn the necessary networking skills to work on hubs/switches and the connection of cables to activate a network data jack in on campus housing rooms.   This person is responsible for  troubleshooting hardware and software primarily on Windows based machines. Applicant will be required to work 10-12 regularly scheduled hours/week on weeknights or weekends at the Help Desk plus other hours making/meeting appointments.  Hours of work will vary to accommodate dorm student requests and to work around their schedules for connecting them (including being available at least 2 weekends per month).  Housing residency is required.  A requirement would be availability to work prior at the start of each semester and summer school sessions.

Requirements:
This position requires a high degree of responsibility and the ability to work independently and within a team. An in depth knowledge of personal computers including laptops and desktops especially those running the Microsoft Windows OS. 
Familiarity with the Windows operating system from XP through DOS is required. Knowledge of hardware and software including networking, patches, virus protection, and Malware control is required. Additional knowledge of Macintosh is a plus.

Position:  HELP Desk Consultant

Description:
This positions is a part time student position. The duties of the Lab Consultants consists primarily of the following: provide HELP/Assistance to our Customers (Faculty, Staff and Students) with computer related problems concerning applications/software, or hardware via phone, e-mail or in person; help Customers create accounts on the Rutgers systems; help Customers change passwords; help Customers with the creation of web pages; monitor paper and toner usage in the labs and replace/refill when necessary; maintain paper supply in outlying labs and replace/refill paper and toner as needed in Robeson Library and the Law School Labs; maintain the orderliness of the labs; assist full-time staff with special projects as required; practice telephone etiquette and take/relay detailed, specific telephone messages for other staff; enforce OIT/Rutgers policies regarding the use of lab equipment and software per Rutgers Appropriate Use of Computers Policy.

Requirements:
All majors are considered for employment for the evening and weekend hours as long as you have some type of PC, Mac, and/or Unix knowledge. Consultants in the Unix lab are required to be Computer Science majors or demonstrate strong unix programming skills and knowledge. One must be willing to learn the basic operation of all of the hardware and the basic functionality of the software available.  Good communication skills are required that includes a friendly attitude.  A willingness to learn a wide variety of computing areas is a must.

Generally hired for the start of each semester through advertisements in April and November followed by interviews in May and December. 
There will be a day of training in late August and mid January.

Position:  General Office Assistant

Description:
The duties of the Office Assistant is to provide supportive assistance to the departmental Administrative Assistant. The duties of the Office Assistant primarily consist of: assist in general office functions, i.e. typing, filing, photo copying, sorting and distribution of mail, answering the phones; assist in the maintenance of department equipment inventory; assist other full-time staff with special projects as required. This is a part time student position.

Requirements:
Good communication skills are required that includes a friendly attitude. A willingness to perform a wide variety of duties is a must. 

Hired at the start of each semester through the Work Study Program.
